Scott Edelman, author of What Will Come After (a collection of zombie short-stories), has announced he’s launching a “short film” contest around his 1998 play A Plague on Both Your Houses. The play imagines Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet with an infusion of Night of the Living Dead.

A Plague on Both Your Houses has never been staged and Edelman is eager to see what fans of zombie fiction will come up with. Edelman states, “The clip can be in any format—live action, animation, marionettes, claymation, kinetic typography, sock puppets, anything you think will best amaze me with your creativity.” The reward for the best 3+ minute short is $200.

Who Wants to Be in ‘The Walking Dead?’

Actor, Thomas Jane of HBO’s Hung, wants to play a bad guy in the second season of AMC’s The Walking DeadAccording to NBC Washington, Jane spent Emmy night with The Walking Dead‘s director, Frank Darabont, trying to figure out a way to make a guest appearance on the show.  Darabont and Jane previously worked together on the movie, The Mist.  Jane did have one stipulation about appearing on the show; he said he did not want to play a zombie.  AMC gave (less picky) fans the chance to appear in season two as a zombie with a contest that ended on August 15th.  The winner of the contest has yet to be announced.

All this talk of season two makes it seem like AMC has already committed to a second round of Walking Dead episodes.  In fact, Fangoria reports that filming on season two will begin February 2011.

Be sure to check out the premiere of season one on October 31st!
