Upcoming Zombie MMOs: ‘State of Decay’ and ‘The War Z’

Zombie video game fans have been blessed with the recent announcement of two new zombie apocalypse MMOs–The War Z and State of Decay.  Both games offer a sandbox-style world where survival, instead of story, is the focus.

The War Z is being developed by Hammerpoint Interactive.  The game will have first-person shooter-style gameplay but without levels, goals, achievements, or even an ending.  The War Z takes place in a huge, explorable open environment.  Players can choose to run amok or create a new society in the post-apocalyptic game world.  A person can play alone or team up with others online.  Players can even develop their own systems of currency and trade.  The War Z will be released exclusively for PC this fall.  After the initial download price is paid, the game will have no additional costs or monthly fees.  Game updates will be free of charge.  Learn more about The War Z on its official website.

State of Decay is the much anticipated zombie game from Undead Labs.  First announced almost three years ago, State of Decay is Undead Labs’ first video game.  State of Decay is a third-person action game.  It takes place during a global zombie outbreak, and the game setting is completely open world.  Players have to locate and reinforce their own fortresses, scavenge for food and supplies, recuse other people, and (of course) battle zombies.  The real-time game environment will change and evolve based on a player’s actions.  Initially State of Decay will only support two-player online co-op, but eventually it will be expanded into a full massively multiplayer online game.  State of Decay does not yet have a release date.  The game will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade and PC.  Head to Undead Labs’ official site for more information and check out the game’s newly released trailer below.

‘The Walking Dead: The Game’ Now Available on Mac, PC

Telltale Games’ newest action/adventure game, The Walking Dead: The Game, is available for download today, April 24, 2012.  The video game–based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book series The Walking Dead–is being released as a series of monthly “episodes.”  The first episode, titled “A New Day,” is out for Mac and PC today and hits the PlayStation Network tomorrow.  The Xbox Live version is coming soon.  Check out the trailer below, and learn more on the game’s official website.

Full-Length Trailer for Telltale’s ‘The Walking Dead’ Game

Telltale Games has released a new trailer for their upcoming video game based on Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead.  The trailer highlights the action adventure game’s blending of 2D and 3D models to create a comic book-like art style.  The Walking Dead: The Game will be released on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network as a series of monthly “episodes.”  The first episode will be available in April 2012.  Check out the trailer below, and learn more on the game’s official website.

 

In-Game Footage from Undead Labs’ Zombie MMO

Undead Labs has released a new behind-the-scenes video showcasing some in-game footage from their upcoming zombie MMO.  Watch the video below.  The massively multi-player game, codenamed “Class3,” will be an open world, survival game that mixes RPG and action video game elements.  The MMO is being developed with the powerful CryENGINE 3 game engine and will be released for Xbox 360 on Xbox LIVE.  The game is in production.

‘All Zombies Must Die!’ Release Date Announced

Doublesix has announced that their newest zombie game, All Zombies Must Die!, will be available on PlayStation Network December 27, 2011 and on Xbox Live December 28th.  All Zombies Must Die! is a top-down arcade-style shooter by the same team that created Burn, Zombie Burn!  In the game, players explore the open-world town of Deadhill while destroying mobs of the undead.  Up to four people can play cooperatively.

‘Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone’ Out for XBLA and PSN Next Week

Konami’s shoot ’em up game, Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone, will be available for download next week.  The game will be released on PlayStation Network on October 25, 2011 and on Xbox Live October 26th.  Zombie Apocalypse: Never Die Alone is a sequel to 2009’s popular zombie shooter, Zombie Apocalypse.  The game takes place on an island crawling with the undead.  Players must destroy the zombie hordes, rescue survivors, and find a way off the island.  Visit the official website for more information and gameplay footage.

The Newest ‘AMY’ Trailer

Vector Cell has released a new trailer for their survival horror game, AMY.  The trailer focuses on the “contamination” aspect of the game.  Watch the trailer below, courtesy Machinima.  AMY will be released later this year on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and PC.

‘Zombie Driver HD’ Coming to XBLA and PSN

EXOR Studios has announced that their popular vehicular combat game, Zombie Driver, is headed to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  Previously the game was only available for PC.  The console version, titled Zombie Driver HD, will include everything the PC game has and more.  Players will be able to drive multiple vehicles of destruction through zombie-apocalyptic environments with a longer narrative campaign.  The game also features racing, combat, and survival modes.  Zombie Driver HD will arrive on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network before the end of the year.
